The Korannaberg Chronicles

I have visited the trail a few times and find it to be delightful no matter what time of the year you visit; there are a variety of routes some of which can be tricky in wet weather.

This is an eco-friendly route run by the Conradie family who really look after you, on the one route you will see “Jonas se plek” an abandoned habitat where Jonas lived his life out having been bought up by the Boers after Blood River, a true patriot he never betrayed the Boers to British soldiers who scoured the are during the Boer War. Remnants of the fruit orchards he planted are still visible. After a scramble through a cave one is also treated to amazing vistas of Lesotho and on the rear wall of the cave a pencil rendition of the Ossewa Brandwag crest pencilled there by some lone soul hiding from Government troops.

Waterfalls abound on the routes and the river crossings are safe yet interesting, the route is safe and the biggest challenge lies with those who have a fear of heights. Concentration is essential!

There are a variety of accommodation offerings such as the farmhouse, converted silos, a campsite and the option to sleep over in the HolkransCave. The nearest town is Excelsior where fuel is available. All in all a trail worthy of a visit for the driving as well as other adventure activities.
