Edwin Smal is proudly sponsored by Cross Country Insurance and will be participating at the IFBB SA champs in Cape Town from the 10th – the 13th of September. All at Cross Country wish him well in the competition and his future goals,we are proud to be associated with him!

Edwin started training directly after school at Tikky Joubert’s gym and after that at Health and Racket and Kevin McNamara’s gym 14 years ago. He then moved on to the Body Guru in Montana Pretoria, with Hennie Kotze as his mentor and who will be assisting him in Cape Town at the S.A Champs.

What Edwin has achieved in bodybuilding so far:

02/1995 Received SAPS Honours – Bodybuilding South African Police Service
03/1995 Received Provincial Colours – Bodybuilding South African Sports Federation
10/1999 – Winner Mr South Africa Bodybuilding including 1st price for Posing Routine(1st animal noises routine in the world) – IFBB Championships (Was chosen to go to the world champs).

Edwin’s short term goal is to qualify for the Amateur World Championship overseas in 2014 at the IFBB South Africa National Championships in Cape Town. His long term goal is to compete at the Arnold Classic’s in 2016 in South Africa.

All of his achievements to date are awesome as Edwin actually retired in 2000 from competing in competitions and after 14 years started to train hard again late in 2013, when he set his mind to compete this year he started to prepare for competition in March 2014. He firmly believes that age will never be an obstacle for what you want to achieve in life that’s why he made a comeback and will be continuing the bodybuilding,retirement is not an option. Bodybuilding has taught him to persevere and push through any obstacle in life and to achieve success in all aspects of your life being family, personal life, work, and sports.
